Engaging a cohort of states, Tribal representatives, and Native Hawaiian communities, the initiative will assess enabling and hindering laws and policies, conduct in-depth analyses of successful state-level partnerships, and convene stakeholders for collaborative input. Key activities include policy and legal research, documentation of effective partnership models, provision of stipends to support Indigenous participation, and broad dissemination of the playbook. The intended impact is to facilitate policy change, increase public and private funding, foster collaborative practices, and enhance readiness among states and Indigenous communities to advance conservation, restoration, and improved land management through scalable and replicable frameworks nationwide.",

The main objectives are to provide a georeferenced knowledge database mapping grasslands and threats, customizable StoryMap templates for outreach and education, and decision-support tools for conservation prioritization. Key activities include developing the foundational template for the Hub, engaging coalition working groups to identify needs, building and refining the platform through stakeholder feedback, and delivering training for effective use. The intended impact is to unify and empower stakeholders, bridge knowledge gaps, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and enable comprehensive, data-driven conservation strategies at a national scale, ultimately enhancing advocacy, resource allocation, and public awareness for grassland conservation. The project will be implemented in phases, with an initial focus on platform development and a budget request for Phase I, aiming for full operational launch by the end of 2025.",

Key activities include conducting a comprehensive review of nitrogen market policy instruments and case studies, convening up to four stakeholder groups—such as farmers, public health experts, water utilities, and policymakers—over 18 months, and assessing the feasibility of mechanisms like trading, credits, and performance payment systems. The initiative will produce a research report and public presentation, foster cross-state learning, and build narrative alignment linking agriculture and public health. Intended impacts are to accelerate the adoption of conservation practices such as prairie strips, wetland restoration, diversified cropping, improved manure management, and reduced synthetic fertilizer use, thereby protecting drinking water, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and providing scalable models for market-based environmental policy. Success will be measured by stakeholder engagement, policy proposals, and strengthened collaborations, with funding scenarios ranging from a minimum viable product at $20,000 to a full scope budget of $100,000, supported by existing and prospective donors.",

New Leaf Climate’s FIR Fund complements this work by investing in nurseries serving CORE regions to increase reliable supplies of high-quality seedlings. ADF also provided a $100,000 catalytic investment in the FIR Fund to help attract additional funding.\n\nTogether, the partners aim to pilot an integrated model that can strengthen reforestation capacity and provide a scalable framework for coordinated reforestation efforts nationally.",

Key activities include hosting a four-part Agroforestry Seminar Series to introduce best practices and connect participants to Indigenous and Tribal land management, administering an Agroforestry Fund to invest in 5–6 landowner-led projects, providing direct financial support for on-the-ground forestry and conservation efforts, and enrolling landowners in USDA programs. The initiative leverages a network of community-based organizations to deliver services, strengthen landowner engagement, and build capacity for sustainable land stewardship. Intended impacts include improved land management, increased land retention among historically underserved communities, expanded access to emerging forestry markets, enhanced economic opportunity, improved forest health, and the long-term retention of family-owned forestland, with success measured by the number of landowners served, projects implemented, acres improved, and strengthened support systems for African American forest landowners.",

The intended impact is to raise awareness, foster partnerships, and build a unified national narrative around agroforestry, ultimately influencing policy, increasing funding, and supporting the adoption of agroforestry practices nationwide. The total project budget is $85,000, with $30,000 requested for Phase 1 and additional funds to be raised for Phase 2.",

"projectSummary": "The Last Mile project, led by the Compost Research & Education Foundation, seeks to establish national guidance for compost use in agriculture to enhance carbon sequestration and promote sustainable farming by addressing knowledge gaps in compost application methods, frequency, and amounts. Key activities include conducting a comprehensive literature review, building partnerships with agricultural stakeholders in California, Colorado, Michigan, and Ohio, and developing educational resources for technical service providers and community leaders. The project aims to increase compost adoption, divert food scraps from landfills to reduce methane emissions, and sequester atmospheric carbon, with an estimated technical potential of 40 million metric tons of CO₂e per year in the target states. Progress will be measured through the creation of educational tools, stakeholder engagement, and survey data, with the intention to scale efforts nationally and internationally. The initial phase is supported by a budget of just under $50,000, with full implementation requiring $150,000 to expand outreach and educational activities for greater stakeholder buy-in and long-term environmental impact.",

The project’s main objectives are to facilitate organics diversion initiatives, foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among jurisdictions, and develop scalable models for coordinated technical assistance. Key activities include project scoping, pilot implementation, resource mapping, expert consultation, development of educational resources and tools, support for local planning and implementation, documentation of lessons learned, and management of partner collaboration. The intended impact is to reduce methane emissions through expanded composting, improve soil health and ecosystem function, and create replicable frameworks for sustainable waste management, with success dependent on stakeholder engagement, clear roles, sustained funding, and a robust network connecting local needs with technical expertise.",

"projectSummary": "This project seeks to drive systems-based change in the tree-planting ecosystem by leveraging state leadership to convene and coordinate key actors across the tree-planting supply chain, including landowners, nurseries, seed collectors, NGOs, tribes, and state agencies, with the goal of translating state-level tree-planting commitments into actionable plans that increase reforestation and agroforestry. The approach begins with identifying an “early mover” state for a deep-dive convening to develop a state-specific action plan outlining policy, funding, and supply-chain strategies, followed by replication in additional states and the creation of a peer-learning network of state officials. Key activities include evaluating and selecting states for engagement, hosting stakeholder convenings, mapping nursery and seed supply, developing action plans, and building both state and multi-state networks to share best practices and scale impact. Intended outcomes are increased tree planting aligned with state climate goals, strengthened policy and funding mechanisms, reduced landowner risk, enhanced supply chain capacity, and the establishment of durable, place-based networks to support long-term forest restoration and climate resilience. Progress will be measured by stakeholder participation, completion of action plans, policy and funding recommendations, and ongoing collaborative efforts resulting from the convenings.",

"projectSummary": "This project seeks to accelerate the adoption of high-value silvopasture systems in the southeastern United States by convening approximately 30 stakeholders—including farmers, conservation leaders, silvopasture experts, and beef industry representatives—for a strategic, in-person event in Georgia. The main objectives are to reimagine silvopasture practices to prioritize farmer value, shade, forage, and profitability, moving beyond outdated timber-focused models, and to foster cross-sector collaboration that unlocks scalable, market-based pathways for integrating trees into grazing lands. Key activities include event planning and hosting, stakeholder engagement, partnership building with organizations such as The Nature Conservancy and McIntosh SEED, and post-event follow-up to capture insights and catalyze ongoing collaboration. The intended impact is increased carbon sequestration, improved land management, enhanced livestock welfare, greater farm resilience and profitability, and the establishment of new market-driven approaches and partnerships for silvopasture adoption. Success will be measured by the diversity and number of stakeholders engaged, evidence of continued collaboration, and participant feedback indicating increased willingness to adopt modern silvopasture systems. The project is led by Trees For Graziers and funded by the Volgenau Climate Initiative LLC, with a budget ranging from $33,250 to $47,750 depending on the level of participation support.",
